Discipleship

Wow, SO much has happened this week!

First, last Monday we went hiking and waded in some beautiful water and enjoyed the old district. Aw, I love those guys. Tuesday, Sister Horspool and I cleaned out gutters ALL DAY. Cleaning out gutters makes you very dirty. Who knew? I'll send pictures. I also said goodbye to some of my favorite people in the whole world. I cried.

Wednesday, Sister Horspool and I drove up to Bentonville, and I got SISTER HESS!!!!! Y'all, she is incredible. Dream team right here. She just got out of home MTC. She's going to go to Sante Fe, Argentina, but until then, she got to come here to Missouri!! Lucky her, coming to the best mission. :D She is a distance runner. Like, takes her water bottle with her everywhere she goes, has a garmin, runs (or used to run) 55 miles a week, and is on the UVU cross country and track team. So, pretty much, we get along great and are going to start running lots more. She's also really good at remembering things and talking to people, which is great because we have a lot of people we meet. I was covering 2 wards, but now we're just over 1 ward and the young single adult branch for Branson, Harrison, and southern Springfield. It's going to be a lot of traveling and a lot of people, but we are both way excited to get things started.

I am so happy but we are also SO busy. And overwhelmed.

It's made me think a lot and question why am I even doing this and what is most important to spend my time on of all the things we need to do. I was really struggling on Saturday, but we went to a meeting that helped me a lot. We talked about being Christ's disciple and what that means. In Matthew 28:19, Christ says, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations," but the Greek word for teach in this verse also means "make disciples of." It hit me that what Christ is asking me, and everyone to do, is to become His disciple and help others do the same. And I can do that. I love Jesus Christ and am honored to be His disciple and be in a position to help others come close to Him.

I love y'all and miss you! My new address is 2935 West Maplewood St. C101, Springfield, MO 65807, and my email is liberty.johnson@missionary.org. Write to me.

Much love,
Sister Liberty Johnson

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

God's Not Done with You

I hope you are all doing well through this crazy time. You're in my thoughts and prayers.  This week I discovered the new theme song for my life. It's called God's Not Done with You by Tauren Wells. This is a very "dynamic time" (as my mission president says). Everyone is being affected in drastic ways! But I know that God is not done with you. His work is not slowing down, and your role in it isn't either. One of my sisters shared a quote with me this week that helped me to understand this.  "The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done."   ...
