Merry Christmas!

Hi everyone! I hope y'all had an incredible Christmas. I did. It was definitely weird not be home and for there to be no snow on Christmas, but this week was awesome.

First, the funniest, strangest thing that I have ever experienced happened this week. On Christmas Eve, we were going around delivering Christmas cookies to some of our friends. About a month ago we met this dear old lady named Marcie, and we decided to take some cookies to her. Sister Johnson has incredibly good intentions, but she is also new to this whole driving in Harrison, AR thing and is terrible at directions. So, we go up to knock on the door, and this old man walks out. We ask if Marcie is there, and he looks really confused and says, "My wife?" We're like, yeah. So we go in, talk to this old guy we don't know. I'm confused at this point because I was pretty sure Marcie didn't have a husband. Then, this old lady (the guy's wife) comes in, and she is definitely not Marcie. I didn't know what to do, so I give them the cookies and pretend like I did it on purpose. The lady is so old and acts like she knows us. We show the Christ Child video, cause everyone needs Jesus. We're getting ready to leave, and the old lady asks for me to write down my name. She whips out her wallet and writes me a check for $50 for Christmas. Then we left. Only after the fact did I realize that we went to the house next to Marcie's. Sister Kershaw is new, so she didn't even realize that I definitely didn't know those people until I told her afterwards. It was a wild ride. The good news is, because they gave me a check, I know what their names are!

Christmas was a lot of fun. We spent it with the nicest people who spoiled us so much. Also, I got to talk to my family. Love those guys. Alyssa took us to a drive through lights show that night. It was 2 miles long with all kinds of cool lights things. I'll send pictures. My favorite part of Christmas was actually Christmas Eve night. The Harrison First Assembly church was putting on a free Christmas Eve dinner for those in need, and we volunteered to help serve food. It was so fun. The people putting it on were all so nice. Sometimes people from other churches don't like us missionaries very much, but these people were so Christlike. They said it didn't matter that we were different denominations, we just all want to serve people and be like Christ. We had some good talks with people we were serving there too. A member of our church was there with his wife and son who aren't members of the church, and they came up and asked if we could come over to teach them. I'm so excited for them. :D

We had a good time tracting this week. It was raining and we were less excited about going door to door and sharing the good news, but we said a prayer and went anyway. :) When we go tracting, we tell people that as missionaries we love to talk about Jesus Christ, and we ask them how Christ has impacted their life. It's always a little awkward to knock on random people's doors, but I learn so much from people's answers. Most everyone here has such faith in Jesus Christ, and I love to hear how He has helped them. It's amazing how open people are to talking about Christ here. When we went this week, someone told us that she grew up in an abusive household, and that Christ is the only way she gets through. Another person told us that Christ helped him to stop smoking.

Jesus Christ has impacted my life so much. He's the reason for all the Christmas festivities and why I'm all the way in Harrison Arkansas doing service and talking to random people instead of at home for Christmas. Christ gives hope and strength when nothing else can.

I love y'all! Email me at liberty.johnson@missionary.org. Happy New Year!

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

Ag Girl!

Hello! How are y'all? This week I went back to my agricultural roots. And let me tell you, I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life.  First, I'm coaching the Harrison FFA Meats team, and we had our first practice this week. I've spent lots of time sorting through piles of old tests from past FFA advisers, finding meat ID quizlets, and asking Mr. Noorda so many questions. And so far, it's going incredibly well. :) I have a team of 3 guys and they seem quite dedicated. They're going to memorize all the beef ID by Tuesday. Second, I harvested chickens. This incredible couple has chickens, and last time we were at their house, they were showing us how they harvest them, and Sister Kershaw was like, "Can we try?" So, we went over this week ready. I cut a chicken's throat and helped pluck them. I felt very triumphant.  In other news, business is booming. We have been so busy! Pretty much the same things as always, so not too ...
