Christ's Light

Happy December!!! I am SO excited for this Christmas season. One thing I'm super excited about is this program called Light the World. In the Book of Mormon (3 Nephi 18:24), Christ tells us to, "Hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up--that which ye have seen me do." That's the whole idea of the program. Christ is the light of the world, and we hold up that light this Christmas by doing things He would do. Part of the program is a service calendar of something you can do every day of December to light the world. Today's is to share on social media about someone who gives Christlike service. I decided to start here by telling y'all about some people who offered me Christlike service this week.
1. Sister Jelderks
This week was wild. Saturday night we found out that Sister Jelderks was being transferred to Fayetteville the next day! She packed like crazy, we took her to Springfield, and now we are no longer a trio. I will definitely miss her. She has such a testimony of Jesus Christ and loved to share her beliefs. She loved going door to door, and she would always start out by saying, "We're missionaries in the area, and we're going around talking to people about Christ."  She helped me to become a better missionary through her example of boldness in talking about Christ.
2. The Brummens and Sheldon
Two different times this week, members served us by showing us their animals. Twas very exciting. :) Sheldon raises lizards and trains them. He can walk them on a lease! (Crazy I know.) Unfortunately I don't have pictures with his lizards, but I do have pictures with one of the Brummens baby goats. When we went to visit them, they showed us all their animals (they are self-sustaining and have a whole farm of animals!), and we got to hold their baby goats. It was a definite highlight of my week.
3. Sister Flippo
Sister Flippo is pretty much my mom in Arkansas. She is so full of Christlike love. Saturday night we visited her after finding out Sister Jelderks was leaving. She gave us sparkling cider and made us feel so loved and like everything will be okay with all our craziness.
4. Laurie and Edna
We do service at a thrift store every Saturday. We work hard, and it's great fun. This week when we went, we had a fun day. We made snowflakes out of hangers! It was hardcore. But now we have two hanger snowflakes in our house. (We decorated for Christmas hard. We put up our tree too.) I thought it was the nicest thing for them to do though. They are so busy running their thrift store and serving so many other people, and we were there to serve them, and they gave us a fun day for Thanksgiving break.
5. The Deans
We had Thanksgiving at the Dean's house! They are so nice. It's hard to be away from home during the holidays, and they made us feel so welcome and at home. We ate so much good food, and we went on a grand adventure! You can see a picture of us all crammed in their car. :)
I'm so grateful for all the awesome people in my life who serve me in such Christlike ways. I am so blessed. If you want to help me light the world, you can go to LighttheWorld.org to sign up for the service calendar. They also have a beautiful nativity video that y'all should definitely watch.
I love you all! I missed you guys extra during Thanksgiving. I thought a lot this week about why I'm on a mission. It's hard to be away from family during Thanksgiving...for everyone. I thought, why would the Lord ask so many missionaries and their families to do this? And why would I choose to do this? But, thinking about it and praying about it, I had a cool experience. Whenever people follow Christ, they are asked to do hard things. I felt so strong that Christ is aware of me and that He wouldn't ask me to do hard things if it wasn't important. I also realized how important this mission is to me. I'm on a mission, away from home for 18 months, on purpose. I love Jesus Christ so much and want to share His love with everyone. It's worth missing all the holidays.
Love y'all! Email me at liberty.johnson@missionary.org.

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

God's Not Done with You

I hope you are all doing well through this crazy time. You're in my thoughts and prayers.  This week I discovered the new theme song for my life. It's called God's Not Done with You by Tauren Wells. This is a very "dynamic time" (as my mission president says). Everyone is being affected in drastic ways! But I know that God is not done with you. His work is not slowing down, and your role in it isn't either. One of my sisters shared a quote with me this week that helped me to understand this.  "The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done."   ...
