Road Trip

Merry Christmas!

This week has been a little crazy--so much traveling! And so much Christmas festivities. I love the Christmas season. Sister Brown and I spent a few days in Springfield, Missouri, this week. We had interviews with our mission president and then stayed for exchanges with some more experienced sister missionaries. It was really fun. A definite highlight was that we got to go to the Nativity. It's this big event they have in Springfield every year with a live nativity, incredible performers, and a ton of nativities set up from all over the world. There were also lots of different charities there that people could sign up to volunteer at. It was really cool to see everything and to talk to lots of people. When we finally got back to Harrison, we went straight to a thrift store we volunteer at. They had us decorate a giant Christmas tree! Yesterday, we went up to Branson, Missouri, and were in an adoration parade. We got to give out a lot of Light the World cards with pictures of Christ on them. Also, we have been practicing for so many different Christmas musical numbers coming up that we've been practicing for like crazy.

Earlier this week, we visited this dear old lady. We shared a scripture from the Book of Mormon with her (Jacob 3:1) that says, "Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions." We promised her that the Lord will console her in her hard times as she turns to Him. She told us that she thinks the Lord helps us sometimes, but sometimes we have to deal with things on our own. I've really been pondering that this week. All this Christmas excitement and traveling has been super fun, but also exhausting. No worries, overall I'm doing great, but there were some definite hard moments this week. And in my hard times, I have turned to Jesus Christ. My mission is still hard, and life is still hard, but the Lord did comfort me when I was struggling. I felt peace and love and...like it's okay to not always be okay. That the Lord will be there for me no matter what. I do truly belief that the Lord will help us, not just sometimes, but all the time. He does console us in our afflictions.

In other news, I am going to coach the Harrison FFA's meats team. I am super excited about that--y'all know how passionate I am about meat judging. :) Oh, also, I need your help! All the missionaries in my mission have permission to watch a movie on December 23rd. I think it would be great fun to go to a movie theater, but I don't know if there will be any good movies (good enough to be my only movie for a whole year) out on that day. Please let me know your thoughts on movies in theaters. Also, Sister Brown has been out 6 months this week! She burned a tie in honor of this auspicious occasion. Our house smells like smoke now, but that's fine. Worth it for Sister Brown's big day. :)

I love y'all a lot! Have a lovely Christmas season and remember what it's really all about--Jesus Christ. Email me at liberty.johnson@missionary.org.

Love,
Sister Liberty Johnson

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

God's Not Done with You

I hope you are all doing well through this crazy time. You're in my thoughts and prayers.  This week I discovered the new theme song for my life. It's called God's Not Done with You by Tauren Wells. This is a very "dynamic time" (as my mission president says). Everyone is being affected in drastic ways! But I know that God is not done with you. His work is not slowing down, and your role in it isn't either. One of my sisters shared a quote with me this week that helped me to understand this.  "The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done."   ...
