Presents!

Hello, hello! It has been an awesome, busy week. I have loved it. I got lots of presents this week. I'll tell you about them. :)
1. Birthday cake!
We do a lot of ministering as missionaries, visiting all types of people and helping them to come closer to Christ. It is one of my favorite things to do. We visit this dear member named Sister Dunn every once in a while. She isn't able to make it to church very often, but she is the sweetest. We happened to come the day after her birthday, and she had this beautiful chocolate cake from her daughter. We sang to her and had cake with her. She told us she had been dreading eating it on her own, so she was so happy for us to be there. We had gone a different day than we had planned for originally, and I know that when we came was directed by the Spirit so we could bring her some joy.
2. Bible
On that same trip, we visited Gene. We have been having Book of Mormon study with him and talking about things. He gave me a beautiful, super nice, big Bible with big margins for note taking. It makes me so happy. I love meeting with him because he loves Jesus Christ so much and he shares it. He reads in the Bible and Book of Mormon every day and texts scriptures to a ton of different people every day. It's awesome! We missionaries are doing a Come and See initiative where we invite people to share what they believe in normal and natural ways. Gene does this! It's normal to share what's important to you with others, and people like to be included. I want to be more like Gene. Also, we had a cool thing with him. He is liking the Book of Mormon more and more, and he wants to learn about prophets and might start coming to church!
3. Crawdad
I caught a crawdad! We walk this loop around a lake at the park in Harrison and talk to people. It's quite fun. :) Well, there was a lot of rain one day and the lake overflowed onto our path. (One of our shingles fell off during the storm... I sent a picture.) The next day we were walking along, and there was a crawdad in the path! I caught it!!! I was really, really excited. :)
4. So much candy!
Grandpa, this dear, dear older guy that always feeds us gives us a lot of candy. He gave us a bag full after lunch with him on Saturday, and then after church on Sunday he gave us more. (I have a picture of what he gave us Sunday so you can see the magnitude. :D ) He just loves us. It's so interesting as a missionary because very few people here in Harrison really know me, but everyone already has strong feelings about me. People like Grandpa automatically love me. Church leaders trust me and help me in my work. And some people really don't like us... Tracting this week, a lady opened the door and said something along the lines of "Sorry, but I believe in Jesus Christ." We said, "Oh, we do too." She shook her head, said, "I don't think so," and closed the door. We weren’t able to respond, and it probably wouldn't have gone well if she gave us the chance, but I'll share with you what I wish she could know about me and my beliefs. I believe in Jesus Christ. He is my Savior and my friend. I am doing everything I can to follow Him and become closer to Him. I'm actually not very good at it on my own, but "it is by His grace... that [I] have power to do these things" (Jacob 4:7).
5. Panda Express and Red Robin
It was Zone Conference this week, so we went up to Springfield, Missouri, and met with lots of other missionaries. I learned a ton. President and Sister Strong shared the coolest thing. They told us that living the gospel of Jesus Christ brings freedom. It can seem like a lot of rules and restrictions, but if we keep them, we are more free then we ever would be without it. We're not trapped by addiction, guilt, confusion. We are free to help other people and have joy. So cool. Also, we had Panda for lunch!!! I was really excited. I ate with chopsticks and was so happy. :) Then, on the way home, Sister Brown and I splurged and got Red Robin. Definitely worth it.

I miss you all! Email me! (liberty.johnson@missionary.org
Love you!

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

God's Not Done with You

I hope you are all doing well through this crazy time. You're in my thoughts and prayers.  This week I discovered the new theme song for my life. It's called God's Not Done with You by Tauren Wells. This is a very "dynamic time" (as my mission president says). Everyone is being affected in drastic ways! But I know that God is not done with you. His work is not slowing down, and your role in it isn't either. One of my sisters shared a quote with me this week that helped me to understand this.  "The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done."   ...
