It's OK to Have Joy!

Good morning!!!
Being a missionary is awesome. You feel the Spirit a lot and are able to receive revelation on how to help people you're working with. You have such a strong purpose and guidance for your life so you can know that you are exactly where you're supposed to be. You are given power and authority from God to share the best news ever. You have a built in best friend in your companion. You get to teach and learn from the most incredible people. (We taught Katie and Maren this week. They are both so sweet and open and helped me to learn about God's love and my purpose here on earth.) AND you get to literally represent Jesus Christ. (His name is in all caps on the badge we wear always.) Being a missionary is AWESOME, and it brings me so much joy.
Being a missionary, I feel that I have come closer to Christ. But, when we come close to Christ, we realize more than ever our weaknesses. (Ether 12:27) I have felt this, especially as I prepare to leave the MTC. (I fly to Arkansas on Wednesday!!!!!) I want to be better in so many ways so I can better help people. This week God has taught me that my shortcomings don't need to and really shouldn't detracted from my joy.
I felt this once when I was stressing about not knowing how to be a missionary. I was praying and saying all this things that I will need to be able to do as a missionary, and then I was going to say "I'm just lil Liberty, I can't..." but I didn't even get through my name. I felt so strongly that I am NOT just lil Liberty. I am Sister Johnson, and I have power from God. It was really cool. :)
I also had a cool experience during devotional. Again I was thinking about my weakness, and the thought came to my mind that it's okay to have joy. There are so many things to have joy about as a missionary, and I shouldn't let anything get in the way of that. I'm still planning on improving, but I can do it joyfully. :)
Our choir director here is AMAZING. He tells the coolest stories. He said that, with Christ, we will never be in real trouble. We still have hard things we need to go through, but Christ has overcome all of it, so there is always hope. He told a story about a family whose son died on his mission. It was awful! But they weren't in real trouble. They had Jesus Christ, and they knew they'd be with their son again. He had written his testimony in his journal before he died. The family took his testimony and a picture of them and taped them into copies of the Book of Mormon. Then they went to his mission and told his story and passed them out. Isn't that cool? I can ALWAYS have joy because I'll never be in real trouble. I have Christ.
I love you all so much! Have a lovely week. I'll email you from Arkansas next time!!
Love,
Sister Johnson

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

Ag Girl!

Hello! How are y'all? This week I went back to my agricultural roots. And let me tell you, I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life.  First, I'm coaching the Harrison FFA Meats team, and we had our first practice this week. I've spent lots of time sorting through piles of old tests from past FFA advisers, finding meat ID quizlets, and asking Mr. Noorda so many questions. And so far, it's going incredibly well. :) I have a team of 3 guys and they seem quite dedicated. They're going to memorize all the beef ID by Tuesday. Second, I harvested chickens. This incredible couple has chickens, and last time we were at their house, they were showing us how they harvest them, and Sister Kershaw was like, "Can we try?" So, we went over this week ready. I cut a chicken's throat and helped pluck them. I felt very triumphant.  In other news, business is booming. We have been so busy! Pretty much the same things as always, so not too ...
