“This is the loveliest place and the best people under the heavens”

Joseph Smith said that the last time he left Nauvoo. I feel that in my soul. I am in love with this part of the world and the wonderful people here. I was absolutely spoiled this week. On Christmas day I was fed 3 different Christmas feasts plus cinnamon rolls. I almost exploded but felt very pampered. 😊 Let me tell you some of the big highlights of the week.

CAROLING

I've taken up violin caroling and it is a blast. We go to people's houses and I play Christmas songs on the violin, and it's so fun. We also went with the Eller family a few times and they'd sing while I played. I want to be their family when I grow up! We had a lot of sweet experiences with that. My favorite was on Christmas Eve. We went to this lady's house that I'd only talked to through messenger. She invited us in and introduced us to her fiance. I played and then we all talked forever about music and Christmas and their family and faith. They said we could come over after the holidays and teach their family!! So, stay tuned for that. There was such a good spirit in their home, and I hope we can go back.

KAYLEE

We started teaching Kaylee! We went over a couple weeks ago to do some service and then she was having a crazy life, but we were finally able to go back over. We talked about God's plan for us. She has studied religion a lot and wants to be closer to God. She was uncomfortable about some of the things we've taught because she'd never heard them before. She is confused by how one passage of scripture is interpreted in so many different ways and there are so many different churches and ways of thinking about the same thing. So many things she brought up made me so excited to teach her about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We're going back this week, and I think it'll be just what she needs. :)

CINDY

Lessons with Cindy are my favorite thing. Wow, I just love her a lot. We taught her the Restoration of Christ's gospel. Two of my favorite sisters in the whole world came and taught it with us, and the Spirit was so powerful. And she's going to get baptized on January 30th. She was worried though that she feels a disconnect about Joseph Smith. Then yesterday she was messaging a friend who was saying a lot of rude things about Cindy's involvement in the church. And Cindy didn't back down. We had a long talk about sacrifices people have made for the truth. I'm so proud of Cindy's courage in seeking for truth and standing up for what she cares about. Even when it's hard. Today she texted us and told us she knows Joseph Smith was a prophet of God.

God is so good. I know He loves us and is so involved in our lives. I am so grateful for the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ and the chance we had to celebrate His birth this week.

I love you all! Have the best week.

LOVE,

Sister Liberty Johnson

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

God's Not Done with You

I hope you are all doing well through this crazy time. You're in my thoughts and prayers.  This week I discovered the new theme song for my life. It's called God's Not Done with You by Tauren Wells. This is a very "dynamic time" (as my mission president says). Everyone is being affected in drastic ways! But I know that God is not done with you. His work is not slowing down, and your role in it isn't either. One of my sisters shared a quote with me this week that helped me to understand this.  "The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done."   ...
