Prospering

Good morning! I miss y'all! This week was INCREDIBLE. Let me tell you the highlights.

Okay, last Monday we were at home, resting before our crazy week to come, when we got a phone call from a number we don't know. We almost didn't answer it, but, luckily, we did! It was a member of our ward, and she told us that she has a friend, Nancy, who wants us to teach her. Hurray!!! We love it when that happens. :) So, the next day, we went over to teach her. It was amazing. She is so prepared and receptive. The gospel of Jesus Christ has brought me so much joy, and I loved to see the light in her eyes as we shared it with her. I'm so excited to continue visiting with her. Second miracle, Gene is getting baptized on February 1st!!! He quit coffee all on his own (He hasn't had headaches--MIRACLE!!) He stayed for Sunday School yesterday for the first time ever, and loved it. It was all about how Christ helps us through dark times, and afterwards Gene said that he wants to come every time. He has been so on fire with the gospel this week, and it brings me so much joy! We also had such a fun lesson with little Garrett. He's 8 and so much fun. We hid a candy bar, blindfolded him, and had his dad direct him to the candy bar. We taught about faith and how we follow Christ even though we can't see him. Twas incredible.

One of my favorite parts of my mission is all the time I get to spend studying the scriptures. Wow, I have learned a lot. This week I've been studying about two prophets--Joseph and Nephi. Both of them followed the Lord, and because they did, they "prospered" (Genesis 39:2 and 2 Nephi 1:20). This really made me think because Nephi and Joseph had some awesome times (they became kings/2nd in command to Pharaoh), but they also had some really rough times (wandering in the wilderness, brothers trying to kill them, slaves, in prison/tied up on a boat, etc.). I was quite confused, so I looked up in the dictionary what it means to prosper, and it means to "make steady progress." Prospering isn't about location/where you're at (slave or king), it's about the direction you're going. Nephi and Joseph were always improving and coming closer to the Lord. They prospered.
I have experienced this to a small extent on my mission. This week may have been the best week of my life--we had so many miracles! We prospered hard. But some weeks on my mission have been rough--people reject us or don't progress like we want them to, my weaknesses are very evident, and I don't feel like my service is enough. And I'm trying just as hard and following the Lord just as much during both types of weeks! This incredible week has helped me to realize that I have prospered all along. As I've trusted in the Lord, He has helped me to progress and grow no matter what's going on in my life.

I love y'all so much! Miss you!!! Email me at liberty.johnson@missionary.org.

Much love,

Sister Liberty Johnson

It's Good to be Home

Missions are hard. You give your whole self every single day for a long time. You have to do scary things like talk to people you don't really know and have major changes in your life every 6 weeks and tedious things like create workshops plan. Yesterday, Sister Maxfield and I were both hangry and trying to plan a lesson and just started laughing at ourselves cause we were struggling so hard! But there are also times of complete, full joy that I can't even describe that makes everything else so worth it.  Cindy got baptized Saturday morning, and it was one of the most wonderful things I've ever been a part of. She's gone through a lot to get to where she is now and has a lot of hard things yet to come, but she is truly converted to Jesus Christ and cares more about following Him then anything else. There is such a light about her! After the baptism, she said she felt this weight lifted off her that she didn't even know was there. In church, she bore her testim...

Member Work Works

Guys, let me tell you about my week. God is a God of miracles. He leads us to people we can help or leads them to us, and it is humbling to watch. We started teaching 4 people this week, all through their member friends. Aw, it makes my heart happy.  Last Sunday in ward council, our ward was all excited about a lady named Helen. She had just moved in and used to meet with missionaries in the past. We knew nothing about her, so we talked to some other sisters and Buck was a hero and got us on a video call with past missionaries and friends that met with her before. One of her member friends set up an appointment for us, and we went over to meet her. She is really sweet and says she wants to get baptized but isn't ready to commit to anything. But God's hand was definitely in all of this because Helen just moved in with her niece Michele. Michele is going through a lot-- way a lot. She is a strong women. We started talking and connected hard. The Spirit was there. She said sh...

Ag Girl!

Hello! How are y'all? This week I went back to my agricultural roots. And let me tell you, I know the joys and discomforts of agricultural life.  First, I'm coaching the Harrison FFA Meats team, and we had our first practice this week. I've spent lots of time sorting through piles of old tests from past FFA advisers, finding meat ID quizlets, and asking Mr. Noorda so many questions. And so far, it's going incredibly well. :) I have a team of 3 guys and they seem quite dedicated. They're going to memorize all the beef ID by Tuesday. Second, I harvested chickens. This incredible couple has chickens, and last time we were at their house, they were showing us how they harvest them, and Sister Kershaw was like, "Can we try?" So, we went over this week ready. I cut a chicken's throat and helped pluck them. I felt very triumphant.  In other news, business is booming. We have been so busy! Pretty much the same things as always, so not too ...
